About Mercy's Mission

Mercy's Mission was started in 2012 after we were informed of the dire need that orphans are facing in the DR Congo. It is based on Hosea 14:3 (ESV) "in You, the orphan finds mercy". This is a Christian organization that believes that each child is valuable to God and has a purpose in this life. Scripture teaches that Christ has a special heart for widows and orphans. And since we are to follow Christ, this is one way that you are able to care for orphans personally. Not every family is called to adopt, but every family could support a child monthly with little sacrifice.

We personally visited orphanages and after meeting with the orphanage directors knew that we had to do something. There are over 5 million orphans in Congo alone. Most kids lost their parents due to the fighting that has lasted for years in Congo. We spent hours interviewing each child and listening to their heartbreaking stories. The orphanage that we are partnering with is Christian-based and is teaching these sweet kids to depend on God for their next meal. Their faith is astounding! These children are for the most part receiving one meal a day and most aren't able to go to school because of lack of finances. We began this child sponsorship program to ensure that each child at this orphanage receives 2 meals per day as well as schooling. For $33.00 a month, you can sponsor a child and change their life. $30.00 covers their food (as well as water and firewood for cooking) and schooling and there is a $3.00 handling fee. The $3.00 fee helps pay the wiring fees and the salary of the National Director of Mercy's Mission in Africa. We will not be distributing any cash directly to the orphanage directors, but instead we will have our National Director receive the funds and buy the food in Congo and deliver it to the orphanage personally. He will also be paying the teachers personally. This ensures that accountability will be in place and leaves no room for corruption. Our national director is a strong believer in the Lord that we have known for years and a very reputable man. He actually lives in Rwanda and will travel every 2 weeks into the Congo to buy and deliver food to the orphans. The orphanage directors report directly to him and must keep written records of every child entering and leaving the orphanages. Most often, the children in the orphanage are true orphans and are brought there because there is no parent to care for them. However, sometimes, a child can be brought to the orphanage when parents are unable to feed their children. We pray for the parents to soon be reunited with their kids and be able to provide for them, but we want to care for them while they are in the care of the orphanage.
